On the evening of July 4, 1986 Sandi Patty premiered her new recording of "The Star Spangled Banner" on WABC-TV's "Liberty Weekend." In the seven years since the release of her first album, the Epic/Word artist had already accumulated her first Grammy Award (Best Gospel Performance, 1984) and Hymns Just For You was well on its way to becoming the first of her albums to go platinum. The deluge of phone calls from viewers "blown away" by her soul-stirring rendition of the national anthem forever elevated Sandi Patty to the status of one of our country's best-loved artists. By year's end, Sandi had received the second of her five Grammys and the first of her four consecutive awards as Billboard magazine's "Inspirational Artist of the Year." Today, Sandi's record sales worldwide have reached 11 million: Three of her albums have gone platinum, five more have gone gold. (A 1992 special Hallmark promotion racked up sales of 1.4 million.) Sandi has sung in an intimate White House setting for the President and the First Lady, and in vast amphitheatres before sold-out crowds of thousands. The millions of fans worldwide who know her as America's favorite inspirational singer are about to receive a special treat: Find It On The Wings--Sandi's first non-concept album in nearly four years. The eagerly-awaited successor to the Grammy Award-winning Another Time, Another Place and the ambitious concept album Le Voyage, Find It On The Wings sees Sandi working once again with dear friend and longtime collaborator Greg Nelson. Together they've recruited an impressive array of industry talent for this recording. "Make It Till Tomorrow" is a duet with Peabo Bryson, the male voice of such classic pop hits as "Beauty And The Beast" (with Celine Dion) and "A Whole New World" (with Regina Belle). Legendary songwriter/performer Burt Bacharach shares writing credit on "If I Want To"; this track is produced by Phil Ramone, whose superstar session credits range from Billy Joel to Gloria Estefan to Frank Sinatra. Bob Farrell and Michael W. Smith have contributed the album's powerful "Carry On." "Make It Till Tomorrow," "If I Want To," "Carry On": These titles are suggestive of what Sandi describes as the theme of Find It On The Wings, that of struggling through hard times and joyfully celebrating the strength that allows one to move on and begin again. The title of another of the album's songs, "Through The Eyes Of A Child" (written by producer Greg Nelson and Bob Farrell), is meaningful in a different way. Sandi--a mother of four who'd never be satisfied to perform only as an "entertainer"--has recently agreed to assume the high-profile role of national spokesperson for World Vision, the world's largest Christian relief organization, which provides food and supplies to underdeveloped nations. After personally visiting the starving children of Ethiopia and assisting in the group's relief efforts, Sandi decided to include "Through The Eyes Of A Child" as a musical dedication to World Vision. In addition to her World Vision work, Sandi will once again co-host the Young Messiah Tour, an annual musical celebration of the Christmas season. She'll also be performing as a guest soloist with several major city symphony orchestras in concert programs of show tunes, standards, and inspirational music. For many, however, the best news is that after a hiatus of four years, Sandi Patty is once again treating the millions of fans she moves and inspires to a regular studio album and an official concert tour.
