New York, NY, September 26, 2016 – On National Voter Registration Day, MTV’s classic franchise “TRL” will return for one day only as “Total Registration Live,” an empowering live special that will rally Millennials to register to vote. The one-hour live show will broadcast from the home of TRL on Tuesday, September 27 at 6:00 p.m. ET/PT on MTV and simulcast on MTV.com, the MTV App, MTV’s Facebook and YouTube pages, and ElectThis.com.
The special will include Grammy-nominated R&B superstar and Respect My Vote! Ambassador, Ty Dolla $ign performing “Campaign,” “No Justice” and “Zaddy” from his brand new project “CAMPAIGN,” appearances by model and Rock The Vote spokesperson Kendall Jenner, Director, Producer and Writer Joss Whedon, Fifth Harmony’s Camila Cabello, rapper Vic Mensa, actress Natalia Dyer, actor and singer Mack Wilds and more, along with MTV’s Nessa who will host. Also on-hand will be MTV News’ Senior Political Correspondent Ana Marie Cox and Senior National Correspondent Jamil Smith.
“Total Registration Live” comes at a time when the Millennial vote will be a key deciding factor in the outcome of the 2016 election. Original research from MTV Insights estimates that if no Millennials vote, Donald Trump will win with 44 percent of the vote vs. 41 percent for Hillary Clinton. If all Millennials vote, Clinton wins 44 percent to Trump’s 39 percent. And if only half of Millennials vote, the race will remain too close to call (43 percent Clinton vs. 41 percent Trump).*
Guests will speak out on the issues at the center of the 2016 election and empower viewers to register to vote via MTV’s long-standing partner Rock The Vote at ElectThis.com, or by texting VOTEMTV to 384387 via a partnership with HelloVote, the first chatbot that allows voters to register over text message or Facebook Messenger in under a minute. In place of the classic “TRL” Top Ten Music Video Countdown, powerful profiles will spotlight what is at stake in the upcoming election through the eyes of three Millennials taking individual action to change their communities, including 24-year old rape survivor and legislative advocate Amanda Nguyen, Yale freshman and undocumented immigrant Larissa Martinez and 22-year old founder of the Georgia Muslim Voter Project Aisha Yaqoob.
MTV’s “Total Registration Live” joins more than 4,000 organizations on National Voter Registration Day, the largest one-day effort to register voters in the US.
The day before “Total Registration Live,” MTV News’ political powerhouse team of Ana Marie Cox and Jamil Smith will be on-the-ground at Hofstra University in the lead-up and immediately following the first 2016 presidential debate. Coverage will range from on-air hits on MTV and multiple Facebook Lives to ongoing editorial and social coverage.
In addition, MTV’s “Elect This,” in collaboration with Viacom NEXT, will debut the “Open Your Eyes” virtual reality art show at Hofstra University, which will be open to debate attendees and Hofstra students. Additional locations will be announced at a later date.
“Open Your Eyes” features 3D immersive visualizations of important issues ranging from gun violence and rape culture to climate change, immigration and more, created by young people and featured artists Dave Persue, Illma Gore, Hayden Zezula, Fabiola Lara, Ada Rajkovic, Shaun O’Connor, Sam Stewart, Grace Miceli, Renda Writer, JCorp, Jon Santos For Freedoms, SacSix, Wane, and ThankYouX. The “Elect This” hub at Art.electthis.com will host the art, viewable in 3D and virtual reality via Sketchfab; interviews with the artists; and key call-to-action for each work of art created in partnership with the artists themselves. The site will also house the “Elect This Generation,” a meme generator that allows users to combine art they create along with a statement about the issue it represents. Art and artist interviews will also be shared across MTV’s social platforms including Instagram, Snapchat and Facebook Live.
Select attendees at “Open Your Eyes” events will receive a viewer so they can view the art in virtual reality at home, in partnership with Sketchfab, and will have the opportunity to take the art home as a limited-edition lenticular print, in partnership with Gifpop.
Over two million actions have been taken via MTV’s Elect This which connects Millennials to the real issues that matter to them in an election season dominated by personalities over policy, and scandal over substance. JAKUBI’S DEBUT EP, 61 BARKLY,ARRIVES TODAY ON EPIC RECORDS
Today, buzzworthy Melbourne quintet Jakubi release their debut EP, 61Barkly. After also releasing their new single “Nobody Better” earlier this week on VEVO. You can check it out HERE.
The group features two brothers, two cousins, and one really good friend, and they’ve quickly become one of Australia’s latest breakout talents. Perez Hilton celebrated the band “They’ve got a real laid-back, positive vibe that’s infectious.” In the past few years, Jakubitoured across Australia and the United States but wanted to pay homage to the address where they formed as a band for the first time by titling their EP 61 Barkly.
Produced by Eric Hudson (Kanye West, John Legend, DR. Dre), the EP kicks off with “Bank Account” a fun, infectious track with buoyant guitars and resounding keys. A resounding choir of “Whoa’s” introduce “Uptown Lady” before the smooth vocals take hold. Working with Harmony Samuels (Chris Brown, Ne-Yo), “Pillow” is a reggae-tinged ode to everyone’s favorite bedtime accessory, while “Nobody Better” serves up a different kind of love song that’s equally soulful and sweet.
“We’re five individual minds who come from different backgrounds, but all want the same outcome,” says Jesse. “It’s never one style or genre; it’s just, ‘Let’s make the songs as good as we can make them.’”
Jakubi will return to the road later this fall with The Suffers.

(Sep. 15, 2016 – New York, NY) – GRAMMY Award-winning multiplatinum pop superstar Meghan Trainor debuts the music video for her new single “Better”[featuring Yo Gotti] on VEVO today. Watch it HERE. Yesterday, Entertainment Tonight offered up an exclusive first look at the cinematic visual starring Meghan, Yo Gotti, and EMMY Award-, Golden Globe Award-, and GRAMMY Award-winning screen icon Beau Bridges as the singer’s grandfather.
Directed by Tim Mattia [Chris Stapleton, Troye Sivan], the clip plays out like a mini-movie highlighted by a tearful and heart-wrenching narrative that vividly brings the song’s lyrics to life. Representing another evolution, it’s the latest release from Meghan’s blockbuster second full-length, gold-certified album, Thank You [Epic Records].
Extending Meghan’s pop dominance, Thank You recently achieved an RIAA Gold certification, while its first two singles “NO” and “Me Too” each received RIAA Platinum certifications. Her 2015 debut Title is now triple-platinum. To date, every single Meghan has released as an artist or featured on has gone platinum.
This summer has been the hottest yet for Meghan. She’s on the home stretch of her sold-out “The Untouchable Tour,” which just packed two nights at Radio City Music Hall in New York City and continues to garner rave reviews. Entertainment Weekly wrote, “Since breaking out with her girl-power anthem ‘All About That Bass’ in 2014 and scoring a GRAMMY for ‘Best New Artist’ in 2016, Trainor has shown herself to be one of pop’s most likable and seemingly down-to-earth stars, one who’s also accrued a devoted fan base of young female fans,” while Seattle Times claimed, “Meghan Trainor burned down a sold-out WaMu Theater on Saturday night and proved that at just 22, she has the elusive combination of talent and personality to become pop’s next megastar.”Idolator said, “The Grammy-winning ‘No’ singer for a night encouraged self-love, empowerment and vintage girl power to a sold out crowd of Megatrons,” and Chicago Tribune recalled, “It was a positive experience from start to finish.”
“The Untouchable Tour” comes to a close in her hometown of Boston, MA at Blue Hills Bank Pavilion on September 24.

Travis Scott claims his first No. 1 album on the Billboard 200 chart, as his new effort, Birds in the Trap Sing McKnight, debuts straight in at No. 1. The set, which was released on Sept. 2 through Grand Hustle/Epic Records, earned 88,000 equivalent album units in the week ending Sept. 8, according to Nielsen Music. Of that sum, 53,000 were in traditional album sales.
The Billboard 200 chart ranks the most popular albums of the week in the U.S. based on multi-metric consumption, which includes traditional album sales, track equivalent albums (TEA) and streaming equivalent albums (SEA). The new Sept. 24-dated chart (where Scott bows at No. 1) will be posted in full to Billboard’s websites on Tuesday, Sept. 13.
Birds in the Trap Sing McKnight is exclusively available through the Apple Music streaming service, and the iTunes Store for purchase. It’s the fifth album to hit No. 1 in 2016 initially as an Apple and iTunes exclusive, following Frank Ocean’s Blonde, DJ Khaled’s Major Key, Drake’s Views and Future’s Evol. (Scott, Khaled and Future also share the same label: Epic Records.)
The songs on Birds in the Trap Sing McKnight generated 50.2 million streams during its first tracking week, equating to 33,000 SEA units. The remainder of the album’s total units for the week were generated by track equivalent albums (TEA) — just 2,000 units. The TEA number is low because only one of the album’s songs is available or purchase a la carte from the album.
Scott’s new album follows his debut effort, Rodeo, which peaked at No. 3 on the tally in 2015. Rodeo launched with 85,000 units (70,000 in pure album sales).
