LIFE OF DILLON RELEASE NEW SINGLE “SEX FOR BREAKFAST” AND PREMIERE MUSIC VIDEO TODAY

(January 13, 2017 — New York, NY) — Critically acclaimed UK alternative pop duo Life Of Dillon kick off 2017 with a brand new single entitled “Sex For Breakfast.” It’s available HERE via Epic Records/Disruptor Records.

Today, the boys—Joe Femi and David Keiffer—premiered the song’s music video on Vevo. A melodic mosaic of sunny acoustic guitars, artful production, R&B grooves, and an unshakable refrain, the track showcases the group’s progression. Meanwhile, the music video proves equally unpredictable and unforgettable with a thought-provoking narrative and a potent, poignant message.

“The ultimate goal of any artwork should be to make you feel something,” comments Joe and David. “We wanted to show both sides of the coin in the video. You see us experiencing the best of Southern California, but you also see this girl who’s really going through some tough times. Regardless, we inhabit the same world. Living in the moment can be bad and good. It illustrates this duality.”

The song is the first in a series of songs and videos Life Of Dillion will be releasing throughout 2017.

“Sex For Breakfast” marks the group’s first release since their 2015 debut EP, Prologue. Its lead single “Overload” amassed over 40 million total Spotify streams and introduced audiences everywhere to Life Of Dillon’s smart, sharp, and slick take on pop music. As “Overload” took off, the group made their late-night television debut on The Late Late Show With James Corden, toured the U.S. with Meghan Trainor and Charlie Puth, and earned praise from Teen Vogue, Idolator, Radio.com, and many others.

2016 saw them relocate from their native UK to Los Angeles. Holed up in their shared apartment for the next year, they cooked up their next musical evolution, and it begins with “Sex For Breakfast.”

(January 10, 2017 – New York, NY) – Buzzing Walterboro, SC rapper Nick Grant will unveil his full-length debut project, Return of The Cool [Epic Records], at all digital retailers on Friday, January 13, 2017. Return of The Cool boasts 12 new tracks, including the latest single “Luxury Vintage Rap,” “Get Up” [feat. WatchTheDuck], “The Sing Along” [feat. Rico Barrino], and more.

To celebrate the release, Grant makes his late-night television debut on CBS’ The Late Show with Stephen Colbert Monday, January 16. Be sure to tune in for what promises to be an unforgettable performance!

Offering a glimpse at the MC’s fiery and fresh style, “Luxury Vintage Rap” highlights his wise and wicked wordplay over nineties-style production. With a bulletproof cadence, he serves up slick, sizzling, and scorching bars such as, “I’m cut from Biggie’s Gucci sweater cloth.”

Over the past few months, Grant hit the road and personally built palpable anticipation for the impending release. He turned up at various colleges to sign autographs and promote the album. Visiting numerous cities across the country, he hosted intimate “Access Granted” Silent Listening Party Events. During these gatherings, fans got to experience an exclusive playback of Return of The Cool on Culture Republic/Urban Fetes headphones. Grant would also divulge stories and anecdotes about the record, giving listeners a firsthand perspective on his vision.

Nick Grant also teamed up with Sprite for a four-part video expose entitled P.O.U.R. Report (Purveyors of Urban Reality) #SPRITEPOURREPORTS. In these clips, he discusses his creative process, influences, story, and how hip-hop can make a positive impact on the world. Watch Part 1, Part 2, Part 3, and Part 4!

Foot Action tapped Grant for an innovative and multi-faceted partnership with Reebok Classics. The retailer filmed three videos with him, going behind-the-scenes at an Atlanta photo shoot, delving into his song “The Jungle,” and getting to know him. He’s also featured in the Lookbook. Meanwhile, Apple Music selected Nick Grant as their New Artist of the Week. The New Artist of the Week program features up-and-coming artists, editorially selected by Apple Music.

BET handpicked Grant as the subject of its next Prelude documentary. Airing January 24 on BET.com, the series follows him back to his hometown as well as to Atlanta, GA before culminating on a deep interview and powerful performance. He joins the ranks of past Prelude artists such as Kodak Black and more.

Growing up in the tiny town of Walterboro, SC, Nick Grant found a window to a much bigger world through hip-hop as a kid. He obsessed over classics by Jay-Z, 2Pac, Nas, OutKast, and A Tribe Called Quest, while writing countless rhymes of his own. In 2014, he inked a deal with Culture Republic—run by music industry veterans Jason Geter, Chaka Zulu and Bernard Parks, Jr. February 2016 saw him unleash his ‘88 mixtape featuring collaborations with the likes of Killer Mike and Big K.R.I.T. Soon, he was garnering praise from Vibe, XXL, HipHopDX, Pigeons and Planes, and more in addition to lighting up the 2016 BET Hip-Hop Awards Cypher as well as Funk Master Flex’s Hot 97 radio show and Sway in the Morning. In 2017, Grant harks back to rap’s revolutionary era over two decades ago, while bringing a decidedly modern heat of his own. With an impressive production line-up that includes Organized Noize Productions, Karriem Riggins, and DJ Khalil. Get ready for the Return of the Cool.

Rapper Kodie Shane Talks Making Music ‘Ahead of Its Time’ & Linking With Lil Yachty

kodie_shane_epic

Beyond anchoring a Grammy nomination thanks to his featured verse on D.R.A.M.’s “Broccoli,” Lil Yachty is also assembling his Sailing Team, a musical crew that also includes Atlanta rapper/singer Kodie Shane. Since creating her first official track called “Crown Me” at 14, 15 years old and penning songs for a popular Atlanta group [she wouldn’t reveal the act’s name beyond saying she wrote their “best songs”], the 19-year-old Epic Records MC has been exposed to the industry since she was a youngin’. Her older sister Brandi Williams was part of the girl group Blaque, best known for the Hot 100 Top 10 hits, 1999’s “808” and 2000’s “Bring It All To Me.” Now, Shane has become a SoundCloud darling, amassing plays in the millions with melodic offerings like “Hold Up” — the flashy jam featuring Lil Uzi Vert and Lil Yachty — and “Sad,” another Yachty duet whose hook finds Shane simply singing, “I just wanna be sad.” Her “Drip On My Walk” visual has also racked up two million views on YouTube.

Several days after releasing her Zero Gravity EP, the follow-up to this year’s previously released Little Rocket EP and 2060 project, Shane dropped by Billboard to discuss making music “ahead of its time” and collaborating with Yachty.

BILLBOARD: You grew up in a musical family. What do you remember of that time?
KODIE SHANE: Well, a long time ago, before I was actually a thought, my sister was in a group, Blaque, that was signed by [industry veteran] Tommy Mottola, but it was Left Eye’s group. When my mom and dad were dating at the time, they were doing this whole group thing with his daughter, my sister Brandi, so my mom helped develop them and they stayed at her house. She helped them become a group because [the members] didn’t really know each other. They were put together. They had to learn how to gel and just be one. After my mom helped develop them, Left Eye took them to the office and they got signed. It was pretty fire.

Did seeing your sister’s success make you want to pursue a career in music too?
Yeah because when I was a baby, they were touring and I was on tour with them. I just grew up and almost had no choice. I could do whatever I wanted to do, but it’s like for as long as I can remember, [music was] probably what I was going to do. I wanted to play basketball at one point but not really more than I wanted to entertain. I wouldn’t even say just being an artist — I wanted to entertain.

Sylvia Rhone and Celine Joshua – Billboard Women in Music’s 100 Most Powerful Executives!!!

01-fifth-harmony-bb31-2016-jdkls-billboard-1548

You wouldn’t think an album no one bought would place high on a list of year-end accomplishments, but the Epic Records compilation Epic AF isn’t just any album. In fact, it’s not an album in the traditional sense, but more of a playlist solution to a music-packaging problem. The problem, as Epic’s Joshua saw it, was that the Billboard 200 album chart now tallies 1,500 streams, or 10 purchased downloads of a song, as one album sold — but if an online single isn’t tied to a larger project, those streams don’t count on the chart. So Joshua proposed to label chief Antonio “L.A.” Reid that Epic take its artists’ hugely popular one-off tracks — like DJ Khaled’s Jay Z and Future collaboration “I Got the Keys,” the Snapchat star’s lead single to his then-unreleased LP Major Key — bundle them as one streaming-only playlist and call the compilation an album. It worked: Released July 17, Epic AF debuted at No. 16 on the Billboard 200, spent four weeks in the top 10 and peaked at No. 5.

“I wanted to create a product meant to behave the way consumers do,” says Joshua, a Beverly Hills resident who was born in Tehran, Iran, and raised in Los Angeles. “Epic AF was the first of its kind: a playlist, product and consumption [tool] rolled into one.” The concept also worked as a kind of promotional tool, helping the label score Billboard 200 No. 1s by Future, Travis Scott and Khaled.

Also in 2016, under the auspices of Rhone — who served as Universal Motown Records president before joining Epic in 2013 — Epic’s bragging rights include the Billboard 200 No. 1 debut of A Tribe Called Quest’s swan song We Got It From Here… Thank You 4 Your Service, two Billboard 200 top five sophomore albums (Meghan Trainor’s Thank You and Fifth Harmony’s 7/27, which included the girl group’s Hot 100 No. 4 hit “Work From Home”), four No. 1s on Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums (LPs from Future, Scott, Khaled and Yo Gotti) and a Top Rock Albums No. 1 from Chevelle. In addition, Epic estimates its streaming business to be up more than 130 percent in 2016 versus 2015.

As Epic settles into it new Culver City digs on the Sony Pictures Entertainment lot, Joshua and a now bicoastal Rhone are focusing on 2017. One major push will be the debut album from Swedish artist Zara Larsson, named best new act at the recent MTV Europe Music Awards. The other will be maintaining Epic’s hot streak. As Joshua says, “Innovation is important.”

Biggest Splurge: Joshua: “Quality, well-designed, handmade watches. Looking down and seeing them always keeps me on time.”

First Female Artist With Whom She Identified: Rhone: “Dinah Washington. My parents played her music all the time — and I can still sing ‘What a Diff’rence a Day Makes’ after all these years.”

RICK ROSS PREMIERES CINEMATIC MUSIC VIDEO FOR “BUY BACK THE BLOCK” FEATURING GUCCI MANE & 2 CHAINZ

rickross_buybacktheblock_sngl_cvr_exp_5x5_hr1

(December 2, 2016 – New York, NY) – Today, 21st century hip-hop icon Rick Ross premieres the music video for his new single “Buy Back The Block” [feat. Gucci Mane & 2 Chainz] on VEVO. Watch it HERE. It’s the first release from his ninth full-length album, Epic Records debut, and one of 2017’s most anticipated hip-hop events, Rather You Than Me [MMG/Epic]—arriving early next year.

Once again, the multiplatinum four-time GRAMMY® Award-nominated rap juggernaut and Maybach Music Group visionary delivers a larger-than-life visual worthy of his legendary wordplay with “Buy Back The Block.” Helmed by frequent collaborator director Ryan Snyder [Diddy, Yo Gotti], the clip begins with a sharp and slick dialogue exchange between Ross and Gucci Mane, while washing a car. They get the idea to “Buy Back The Block” as “the move,” and the action kicks into high gear. These rap luminaries intensely deliver their verses at locations throughout Atlanta, energizing their surroundings as cash flies everywhere in the process. It’s a raw and real return to form for one of this generation’s preeminent rappers.

Since its November release, “Buy Back The Block” has already generated over 1.4 million Spotify streams and counting. Complex proclaimed it, “one more gift from the Maybach Music Group,” while HotNewHipHop praised his “strong performance on the closing verse.”

Ross recently made headlines when he creatively announced the album title Rather You Than Me by brandishing it across his sweatshirt on the red carpet at the American Music Awards—a move applauded by Forbes. Later that night, he joined DJ Khaled, Nicki Minaj, Future, Chris Brown, August Alsina, and Jeremih for a powerhouse performance of the Major Key smash “Do You Mind.”

2016 has been a knockout year for Ross. He teamed up with Skrillex for the gold-certified “Purple Lamborghini” from the year’s biggest soundtrack album, the platinum Suicide Squad Official Soundtrack. He also celebrated the tenth anniversary of his full-length debut, Port of Miami, which received a platinum plaque.

However, 2017 is gearing up to be even bigger with Rick Ross’s next chapter underway…

“Untouchable” is the best way to describe Rick Ross’s decade-plus run at the top of rap. Along the way, he achieved five Billboard Top 200 #1 debuts and three #2 debuts, received four Grammy Award® nominations, graced the cover of Rolling Stone twice, and made history more than once. His debut single “Hustlin’” became the “first mastertone ever certified RIAA platinum before the associated album had been released.” He sold millions of singles and albums and cemented his status as one of rap’s biggest and brashest voices. Moreover, he founded Maybach Music Group home to Meek Mill, Wale, and more. Signing to Epic Records in 2016, his “untouchable” streak continues with the impending release of his ninth full-length Rather You Than Me.

KODIE SHANE DROPS DEBUT 5 SONG EP, ZERO GRAVITY, TODAY ON EPIC RECORDS!

ks_zerogravity_ep_cvr_5x5_cln_lr

(Dec. 2, 2016 – New York, NY) After breaking out nationwide on record and on tour with Lil Yachty’s Sailing Team crew (“All In”), fellow Atlanta rapper Kodie Shane has graduated to Epic Records, which has released her debut 5-song EP ZERO GRAVITY today.

Centerpiece of the EP is “Sad” (featuring Lil Yachty) whose video premiered today at 10:00 a.m. (EST) on Noisey, coinciding with the EP’s arrival. Listen to “Sad” HERE. “Sad” has exploded across the web – after being featured on Spotify’s Most Necessary Playlist. The track list for ZERO GRAVITY comprises: 1. Drip In My Walk * 2. Sad featuring Lil Yachty * 3. Can You Handle It * 4. Losing Service * 5. A Ok.

Tastemakers unanimously declared Kodie was the breakout discovery on the track and video of Lil Yachty’s six and a half-minute “All In,” from his July mixtape Summer Songs 2. “All In” was described by i.D (Vice) as “a Ruff Ryders meets Rugrats squad anthem… The song’s standout star, Kodie Shane, the Sailing Team’s lone female member whose grandpa named her after a cowboy.” FADER applauded Kodie’s “show-stealing verse” on “All In.”

Kodie Shane released her debut indie mixtape 2060 in early 2016, which grabbed over a million-plus streams at SoundCloud in one week. She issued her first indie EP in June 2016, the 5-song Little Rocket, featuring original versions of “Can You Handle It” and “Losing Service.” The EP arrived in tandem with Lil Yachty’s 20-city Boat Show Summer 2016 Tour, which prominently featured Kodie as a member of the Sailing team (in keeping with Yachty’s “love for all things maritime” (i.D reported). As the first member of the Sailing Team “to make some big moves” (Complex), Kodie enlisted Yachty and Lil Uzi Vert for a fresh new track later on, “Hold Up.”

Kodie is one of eight up-and-coming hip-hop artists showcasing their talent in an online competition called “Fresh on Deck.” The influencer campaign is sponsored by Fresh Empire and Complex. The winner will receive a headlining spot on the June 2017 Fresh Empire Tour with a major hip-hop artist.

Most recently, on Thanksgiving Sunday, Kodie hosted an intimate 100-plus person listening event for ZERO GRAVITY at Bowlmar Lanes in Atlanta, attended by Lil Yachty and the Sailing Team, local radio, press, and close friends showing their love and support.

Through an unexpected turn of events and after some downright impressive rapping, $ilk Money escapes with his cohorts into the arms of a beautiful young lady before all hell breaks loose—quite literally reflecting the music’s twisted lyrical narrative.

The video is as unique, unpredictable, and undeniable as the hip-hop collective itself is.

Right now, DIVINE COUNCIL is tearing up stages across the country on the HIHORSE’D TOUR supporting Young Thug and special guest 21 Savage. See a photo-recap HERE. Check out remaining dates below.

Meanwhile, since its debut on Zane Lowe’s Beats 1 show, “Decemba” (Remix) is already over 500,000 plays on Spotify.

DIVINE COUNCIL continue attracting critical acclaim. Rolling Stone exalted them among “10 Artists You Need To Know.” Noisey called them, “funny and ironic at times, dark and somber at others—but thoroughly fresh and unusual throughout,” while Complex sums them up best, “The bounce is undeniable.”

DIVINE COUNCIL was born in Richmond, VA far away from any major music metropolis. This creative vacuum encouraged them to cook up a distinct sound informed by everything from inventive hip-hop and slick R&B/soul to reggae, nodding to two members’ Jamaican descent. With an aesthetic reflecting the internet zeitgeist, the boys sent shockwaves throughout hip-hop, signing to Epic Records and receiving the blessing of Erykah Badu and André Benjamin. Their viral hit “P. Sherman (PS42WW$)” cracked 1 million Spotify streams and introduced their EP Council World. Simultaneously, DIVINE COUNCIL’s ICYTW*T, 18 and from Chicago, has cemented himself as an in-demand producer the likes of Madeintyo, Father, and ASAP Mob’s Playboi Carti.

She is equally distinguished as a songwriter, penning all but one of her #1 singles, including “Fantasy,” “Always Be My Baby,” “Hero,” “Touch My Body,” “One Sweet Day” and “We Belong Together,” to name a few. Carey has also gained acclaim as an actress and was awarded the “Breakthrough Performance Award” at the Palm Springs International Film Festival for her performance in Precious (2009). CONGRATULATIONS TO FIFTH HARMONY ON THEIR AMA AWARD!!!! Collaboration of the year: “Work From Home” Featuring Ty Dolla $ign

Fifth Harmony wins at the AMA’s! The ladies also performed their latest single “That’s My Girl” at the 2016 American Music Awards on Sunday (Nov. 20) night.

The five-member girl group brought the stylish post-apocalyptic vibes to the AMAs with a detailed set that brought to mind Mad Max relocated to a New York City back alley. “That’s My Girl,” whose honking horns recall “Worth It,” is an immediately likable R&B dance banger, and the group’s complicated choreography is a treat in an era when most pop stars aren’t particularly impressive dancers.

L.A. Reid Confirmed as Keynote Speaker for Midem 2017

la_epic

Antonio “L.A.” Reid has been tapped as a keynote speaker for the 2017 edition of the Midem trade fair in Cannes, France. The 2017 conference will take place June 6-9 with an overriding theme, “A new golden age for the music industry? Get ready to embrace it.”

Reid, the co-founder of Atlanta’s LaFace Records (with Kenneth “Babyface” Edmonds) and one-time Arista Records chief and X Factor judge, is one of the most recognizable faces in the U.S. record biz. He’s guided the careers of some of the world’s biggest stars, from Usher to Pink, Justin Bieber, Meghan Trainor and Mariah Carey, plus many more.

The Epic Records chairman and CEO this year recounted some of his tales in his memoir, Sing to Me: My Story of Making Music, Finding Magic, and Searching for Who’s Next. There’s more stories to share with delegates in the south of France, he says.

“I’m thrilled to be back at Midem after being a member of the Midem Artist Accelerator artistic committee in 2015, and I’m excited at the prospect of sharing the experience of more than 25 years in the music business with the Midem audience,” Reid says in a statement.

“It’s also a chance to look to the future,” he adds, “as Midem highlights this year the immense opportunities brought by the development of streaming in today’s global music marketplace, thus creating a New Golden Era for the music industry to thrive.”

A Tribe Called Quest Returns to a Changed World With Joy and Grief – The New York Times

epic_tribe

In the music business, when you disappear for a long stretch of time, you abandon your right to grouse about how things have changed in your absence. Nostalgia is a cheap crutch and a lame weapon. When the whole world is changing, though, disappearing and then re-emerging in different circumstances can be more deeply destabilizing. The things you held dear might be missing, or under attack. Adjusting is a full-time job.

Last week, the members of A Tribe Called Quest, one of the essential groups of the 1990s, came back after nearly two decades into a hip-hop world that had iterated a dozen or more times; they didn’t flinch. And they returned in a moment when America’s racial tensions were at an outrageous level; they stepped into action.

It’s been 18 years since A Tribe Called Quest released an album — enough time for eight years of George W. Bush and almost eight years of Barack Obama, for Lil Wayne and Kendrick Lamar, Sept. 11 and Black Lives Matter, Drake and Young Thug, the rise of streaming and the fall of the record store.

In its day, the group was at the vanguard of hip-hop’s progressive wing, an exquisite balance of philosophical and attitudinal, melodic inventiveness and subwoofer thump. Its internal politics were sometimes rancorous, though, which meant that last year’s reunion was a pleasant surprise.

The members were recording the often stunning new album, “We Got It From Here … Thank You 4 Your Service,” when Phife Dawg, one of the group’s rappers, died in March. The record reckons with shifting sands, both internal and external, personal and political. But strikingly, not musical. The group’s commitment to its history and sonic signatures is intact, and impressive, and rewarding.

In truth, it’s hard to tell if the version of A Tribe Called Quest captured on this album — the core members Q-Tip, Phife and Ali Shaheed Muhammad; the sometime member Jarobi White, here back on equal footing; and the longtime associates/de facto affiliates Consequence and Busta Rhymes — is even paying much mind to the surrounding music world. The musicians’ giddiness at working together, at being in the same room, is palpable. They trade lines with a bubbly verve, the sort of eager overlap that comes from working in close quarters with old friends.

It all makes for an album that interweaves social and political truth-telling with extreme personal joy, all under a cloud of heartache. The range of grief and grievance Q-Tip spans on this album is dizzying. His voice is still piercingly nasal, his lyrics full of tightly condensed abstractions: “Used to see the TV screen as the place to land my dream in.” On songs like “Kids…” and “Ego,” he raps with wisdom earned over years while still acknowledging the knuckleheaded power of the version of himself that once was young.

Q-Tip’s production on the album manages to thicken the group’s traditional sumptuous warmth for the modern ear — its old sound amplified, not rebuilt — without tinkering too intensely with the old component parts: a therapeutic low end, stinging drums, unlikely samples, a rich understanding of how genres bleed into one another.

Phife was as sharp as ever here, full of his slick sports metaphors, and also serious about structural social inequality, as on “Whateva Will Be”:

So am I ’posed to be dead or doing life in prison?
Just another dummy caught up in the system
Unruly hooligan who belongs in Spofford
Versus getting that degree at Stanford or Harvard
Threatened by my work ethic, the way I speak, yo
Should I be mentally weak versus being Malik, though?
Inline image 5

A cavalcade of guests show up to pay respect: André 3000 delivers a characteristically mercurial verse on “Kids…,” Elton John plays relaxed piano on the strolling “Solid Wall of Sound,” Jack White peels off a caustic guitar solo at the end of “Lost Somebody,” Kendrick Lamar delivers angry grit on “Conrad Tokyo” and Kanye West bellows a hook on “The Killing Season.”

And the verses from Jarobi White, long the group’s lost member, suggest a great hip-hop career that never was. On “The Killing Season,” he’s scathing, invoking and updating “Strange Fruit”: “These fruitful trees are rooted in bloody soil and torment/ Things haven’t really changed or they’re dormant for the moment.”

While this reunion-cum-tribute album was born of personal need, it ends up rising to meet a social and political moment it couldn’t have wholly anticipated (though on “Conrad Tokyo,” Phife does refer to Donald J. Trump hosting “Saturday Night Live” last year: “Troublesome times, kid/ no time for comedy”).

On Saturday night, the group was the musical guest on “Saturday Night Live” for the first episode after the contentious election. Dave Chappelle was the host, and the episode tried hard to grapple with the country’s new political uncertainty.

The group performed “We the People…” and “The Space Program,” two of the more bluntly political songs on the new album. At the end of “The Space Program,” the group was joined onstage by Consequence and Busta Rhymes. All of them chanted “Let’s make something happen,” then gathered for a deep embrace, heads down. That gesture was a security blanket and a balm — a healing of a still-fresh wound, and a model for gathering love in the face of unpredictable trauma.

(NOV. 4, 2016 – New York, NY) A Tribe Called Quest – Q-Tip, Phife Dawg (who passed away on March 22nd), Ali Shaheed Muhammad, and Jarobi White – the groundbreaking ’90s group that forever transformed the urban music landscape, detonates new shock waves on their first – and last – new studio album together in 18 years, WE GOT IT FROM HERE… THANK YOU 4 YOUR SERVICE, arriving November 11th on Epic Records.

WE GOT IT FROM HERE… represents the first new music from A Tribe Called Quest since they disbanded in 1998, after recording The Love Movement, their final album together. Renowned painter/photographer Richard Prince has been commissioned to create what promises to be show-stopping cover art for WE GOT IT FROM HERE…

“The extraordinary times in which we now find ourselves desperately call out for a new message from A Tribe Called Quest, and WE GOT IT FROM HERE… is that message,” said LA Reid, Chairman and CEO, Epic Records. “For nearly two decades, it has been my deepest personal wish to add one more chapter to their incredible legacy. I am deeply honored that Tribe entrusted us with this historic and final album.”

Last year marked the 25th anniversary of People’s Instinctive Travels And The Paths of Rhythm, the 1990 debut album of A Tribe Called Quest, and one of the foundational pillars in the contemporary hip-hop pantheon, and the one that established ATCQ as a force to be reckoned with in the worlds of hip-hop and popular music. The album’s trio of Rap chart singles and iconic videos, “I Left My Wallet In El Segundo,” “Bonita Applebum,” and “Can I Kick It?” continue to resound today.

A Tribe Called Quest would go on to record three RIAA platinum hip-hop masterpieces, The Low End Theory (1991, including the #1 “Check the Rhime”); Midnight Marauders (1993, with “Award Tour,” “Electric Relaxation,” and “Oh My God” featuring Busta Rhymes); and the #1 Soundscan Beats, Rhymes and Life (1996, with “Stressed Out” featuring Faith Evans); before calling it a day on The Love Movement (with “Find A Way”) in 1998.

Consistently ranked at the very top tier of rap’s all-time most important groups, ATCQ has regrouped at various times over the past decade or so for live performances, including summer festivals and concert dates, even a couple of New York shows during Kanye West’s Yeezus Tour of 2013. Most recently in November 2015, they were seen performing on NBC’s The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, is support of the People’s Instinctive Travels 25th anniversary release. ATCQ has been the recipient of numerous honors and awards, including the VH1 Hip-Hop Honors (2007), and the Billboard R&B Hip-Hop Awards (2014’s Special Achievement Award). They are also the subject of a critically acclaimed documentary film directed by lifelong hip-hop follower Michael Rapaport, entitled Beats, Rhymes & Life: The Travels of A Tribe Called Quest (2011).

A TRIBE CALLED QUEST:

Queens, New York natives Q-Tip, Phife Dawg, and Ali Shaheed Muhammad of Brooklyn, formed A Tribe Called Quest in 1985. The group is one of hip-hop’s most legendary, beloved and revered groups of all time. Easily recognized for their unique approach to rap music by employing jazz infused soundscapes to Afro centric rhymes, ATCQ was largely responsible for the popularity of a new genre that dominated the East Coast sound of the early 1990s. Sonically, ATCQ was a decisive and welcomed tangent of jazz, bass-heavy rhythmic vibes and eclectic sampling when compared to the mundane recycling of soul loops, breaks and vocals of their contemporaries. Lyrically, emcees Q-Tip and Phife Dawg addressed social issues relevant to young blacks such as use of the n word and its relevance, date rape and other interpersonal relationships, industry politics and consumerism with infectious energy and fun and having a good time while still promoting positivity. ATCQ composed a number of successful singles and albums with their creative approach to rap music. In 1990, the group released Peoples Instinctive Travels and the Paths of Rhythm. Their sophomore effort, The Low End Theory, considered one of the greatest albums in hip-hop history that would solidify them as legends. In recent years, the anticipation for another ATCQ album has been building. Today, the power of the Abstract Poetic, Five Foot Assassin, and Mr. Muhammad is still evident in their dynamic stage shows and in the reception of their adoring fans.

(November 4, 2016 – New York, NY) Today, multiplatinum, record-setting Atlanta hip-hop trendsetter FUTURE uncovers his brand new surprise track “Used To This” [feat. Drake] at all digital retailers via Epic Records/A1/Freebandz. Get it HERE. As soon as the song went live on iTunes, it vaulted into the Top 10 of the Hip-Hop/Rap Top Songs chart where it’s rapidly climbing.

In addition, he debuts the music video on VEVO. You can watch it at this LINK.

Directed by Eif Rivera [DJ Khaled, Nicki Minaj, French Montana], the clip begins with a behind-the-scenes vignette of the year’s biggest tour Summer Sixteen—co-headlined by Drake and FUTURE. The visual sees both of these rap titans meet on a soccer field surrounded by a female Mexican team. The action unfolds as the piano production resounds, and Future carries another unique, unshakable, and undeniable chant punctuated by Drake’s deft delivery. It continues what’s become an inimitable streak of bangers between the two genre leaders that traces back four years now. A stunning victory lap, it’s about to heat up the remainder of 2016 to a boiling point too.

FUTURE caps off yet another landmark year with “Used To This.” In February, EVOL became his third consecutive release to bow at #1 on the Billboard Top 200 in less than a year. The project achieved an RIAA Gold certification, while spawning the platinum smash “Low Life” [feat. The Weeknd]. He followed that up with the gold single “Wicked” as he sold out dates across the country on his headliner The Purple Reign Tour. Along the way, he appeared on Saturday Night Live, solidifying his place as a cultural icon. He spent the summer packing arenas coast-to-coast on the Summer Sixteen Tour alongside Drake. Now, he’s got more surprises up his sleeve…

Be on the lookout as FUTURE’s reign continues. 2017 is primed to be his biggest yet.

MARIAH CAREY KICKS OFF THE HOLIDAY SEASON on VH1 DIVAS HOLIDAY !

mgid-uma-image-vh1

(NEW YORK, NY – November 3, 2016) – VH1 announced today that global superstar and Queen of Christmas Mariah Carey will perform at VH1 DIVAS HOLIDAY: UNSILENT NIGHT. The highly anticipated holiday event will tape Friday, December 2nd at the Kings Theatre in Brooklyn to air Monday, December 5th at 9:00pm ET on VH1.

Additional A-list performers will be announced shortly.

“I’m thrilled VH1 asked me to return to the DIVAS stage this year,” Carey said. “The DIVAS special offers a wonderful opportunity to perform for my fans over the holidays, which is my favorite and most festive time of year.”

It is undeniable that Carey is the quintessential Christmas songstress. Since its 1993 release, her smash hit “All I Want for Christmas Is You” has become a holiday soundtrack staple: it has sold over 14 million copies globally, boasts the title of 11th best-selling single of all time, and has consistently returned to claim a spot on the holiday season charts for over two decades. This iconic track appeared on her debut Christmas album “Merry Christmas” (1994), along with a slew of other holiday season classics and Carey-crafted originals. The follow-up Christmas album – “Merry Christmas II You” (2010) – debuted at #1 on the R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart.

The 2016 event will be the third time that Carey has graced the DIVAS stage with her magnetic presence and dynamic vocals. After the incredible success of the original installment in 1998, which featured a legendary “Chain of Fools” duet with Aretha Franklin, Carey returned to wow audiences in 2000 with a show-stopping tribute to the legendary Diana Ross.

The DIVAS event is one of many upcoming appearances for Carey: this month, after playing sold-out venues across Europe, her Sweet Sweet Fantasy tour continues on to both Mexico and Hawaii, and during December, for the third consecutive holiday season, Carey will take the stage at the Beacon Theatre in New York for her perennial Christmas performances. Additionally, her global docu-series, “Mariah’s World,” will premiere December 4th on E! in the United States.

A true trailblazer, Carey has earned acclaim in all facets of her career as an American singer, songwriter, record producer, and actress. As the best-selling female artist of all time, with more than 220 million records sold and eighteen #1 singles – the most for any solo artist in history – Carey is a luminous and enduring talent who has enthralled audiences for a quarter-century. MULTI-PLATINUM SONGWRITING AND PRODUCTION TEAM CAPTAIN CUTS RELEASE DEBUT SINGLE “LOVE LIKE WE USED TO” FEATURING NATEUR

(Oct. 13, 2016 – New York, NY) – Multi-platinum songwriting, production, and remix team Captain Cuts release their debut single “Love Like We Used To” [feat. Nateur] today via Epic Records. Listen to it HERE.

Today, the group—Ben Berger, Ryan McMahon, and Ryan Rabin (drummer & producer, Grouplove)—exclusively debuted the song on Neon Gold.

After penning and/or producing major smashes such as Walk The Moon’s “Shut Up and Dance,” Grouplove’s “Tongue Tied,” and more, the song represents the trio’s bold transition from behind-the-scenes into the spotlight. An upbeat and undeniable anthem, “Love Like We Used To” merges energetic production with a show-stopping vocal feature from fellow songwriter and frequent collaborator Nateur aka Nate Cyphert. It’s also the perfect introduction to Captain Cuts as artists.

The single’s music video premieres on VEVO later this month, while it begins impacting Pop radio on October 31.

Known for their explosive monthly Emo Nite sets, Captain Cuts return to the stage of the Echoplex in Silverlake, Los Angeles on Tuesday November 1.

Be on the lookout for more from Captain Cuts soon.

It’s very possible you’ve already sung along to a Captain Cuts song. Since their 2010 formation, the award-winning multiplatinum-certified songwriting, production, and remix team has left an indelible mark on pop music. The lifelong friends and Los Angeles natives co-wrote the inescapable triple-platinum “Shut Up and Dance” with Walk The Moon and wrote and produced Grouplove’s platinum “Tongue Tied,” Halsey’s “Roman Holiday,” Tove Lo’s “Crave,” and more as well as songs for Bebe Rexha, Jennifer Lopez, Tegan and Sara, and many others. They’ve also done official remixes for the likes of Britney Spears, Imagine Dragons, and Ellie Goulding, to name a few. The trio broke genre barriers, mashing up turn-of-the-century emo and rock staples from Blink-182, Paramore, and Say Anything with current pop hits from Fetty Wap, Selena Gomez, and Drake on the 2015 mixtape If You’re Listening It’s Never Too Late and earning praise from Los Angeles Times, Rolling Stone, Spin, Billboard, and Alternative Press, along the way. After a meeting with the Epic Records A&R team, L.A. Reid heard “Love Like We Used To” and personally signed them as artists, kicking off their next evolution.
